BEAUFORT, S.C. (AP) - A man has been sentenced to 40 years in prison for killing his neighbor just after she received her monthly disability check.

Prosecutors say a Beaufort County jury found 38-year-old Brian Walls guilty of murder Thursday afternoon.

The Island Packet of Hilton Head reported that a pathologist testified 56-year-old Teresa Seigler was beaten to death in her bed in December 2016.

Prosecutors say her body was then bound with duct tape and wrapped in blankets and her home set on fire.

Authorities say Walls’ DNA was found on the duct tape and Seigler’s purse, prescriptions, debit card and other belongings were found in his car.

Prosecutors say Walls was looking for money to buy drugs and killed a woman who had invited him into her home several times.
