FRESNO, Calif. (AP) - A California woman has been arrested on suspicion of stealing from people by falsely promising to negotiate home purchases.
The Fresno Bee reports that 39-year-old Maria Teresa Flores-Morales was arrested Friday on suspicion of grand theft and theft by false pretenses.
Authorities say the Fresno woman stole more than $110,000 by showing people the outside of homes that were in pre-foreclosure but still occupied and telling victims she would buy the properties for them if they provided her with down payments.
Police say Flores-Morales would cease contact after taking money from the victims, primarily people who were living in the country without legal permission.
Police say she has posted bail and is awaiting a court hearing later this month.
