JACKSON, N.J. (AP) - Authorities say they’ve broken up a heroin distribution ring that sold as much as $400,000 worth of drugs a month.
Monmouth County prosecutors say nine people - including the alleged ringleader and his mother - are accused of playing roles in the ring that they say operated in the county’s Bayshore area. Another 23 people are charged with buying drugs from the ring.
The charges announced Monday culminated a 16-month investigation.
Authorities seized 3,200 bags of heroin and about $12,000 cash when they executed search warrants in Monmouth, Ocean and Essex counties, Authorities say the ring moved about 20,000 bags of heroin a month.
Anthony Distaulo, a 33-year-old Jackson resident, is accused of leading the ring. His mother, 52-year-old Mechelle Distaulo of Brick, is also charged but remains at large.
