NAPLES, Fla. (AP) - Authorities say an inmate at a Florida jail died shortly before his expected release.

The Naples Daily News reports that 31-year-old Timothy Kusma was supposed to be released April 11 after pleading no contest to a drug possession charge. But the Collier County Sheriff’s Office says he suffered a medical event at the jail later that day and died shortly after being transported to a nearby hospital.

The county medical examiner says an autopsy report to determine Kusma’s cause of death has not been completed.

Kusma had been using a wheelchair during his hearing in court. His attorney says he was suffering from physical distress, but details weren’t immediately available.
