After months of “will he, won’t he,” former Vice President Joseph R. Biden reportedly has set a date to announce his official candidacy for the Democratic presidential nomination.
Mr. Biden will announce his candidacy on Wednesday via a campaign video, according to people speaking to The Atlantic who have been told about the finalization from Mr. Biden’s top aides.
The former vice president has been polling as the front-runner for the Democratic presidential nomination, despite not having officially entered the race.
He said in early April that he is “very close” to deciding whether he will run in the 2020 election.
“Even if I knew for certain I was going to run for president … my intention from the beginning if I were to run would be [to be] the last person to announce… Give everybody else their day, then I get a shot, then off to the races,” the Delaware Democrat said to a pool of reporters.
