TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) - Florida political candidates wouldn’t be able to donate leftover campaign cash to a charity if either they or an immediate family member run the organization under a bill heading to the House floor.

The House State Affairs Committee unanimously approved the bill Thursday.

Candidates for state office have limited ways they can dispose of leftover campaign money, including donating it to charity.

But bill sponsor Republican Rep. Bobby Payne said candidates shouldn’t essentially give themselves campaign money in the form of a donation to a charity where they draw a salary.

A Senate companion bill has one more committee stop before reaching the full chamber.
