HOPKINTON, Mass. (AP) - Boston Marathon organizers are adding a new twist this year - they’re painting a bright blue line from the start to the first mile.

The Boston Athletic Association, which puts on the race, says three stripes of blue will be painted Monday from the start in Hopkinton to the marker for Mile 1 of the classic 26.2-mile (42.2-kilometer) course.

Hopkinton selectman John Coutinho says the blue line “will highlight Hopkinton’s stewardship of the start and first mile for the world’s most prestigious marathon.”

Association chief executive Tom Grilk says the line will symbolize the “strength and commitment” that Boston and Hopkinton have shared since the start was moved to the town in 1924.

The 123rd running of the Boston Marathon is April 15.
