GREENEVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Authorities say two Tennessee police officers have been wounded in a shooting that left a man dead.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation said in a statement that two officers with the Greeneville Police Department attempted to stop a speeding vehicle, but the driver fled to an apartment complex where he took off on foot.

The statement says a female passenger told officers where she and the man lived in the apartment complex. Officials said when officers entered the residence they found a second man who didn’t live there and that man became combative, pulled a gun and fired shots.

Authorities say both officers were struck and returned fire, killing the man. The officers were treated at a hospital, but are expected to recover.

Officials were trying to identify the man who was killed.
