INDIAN TRAIL, N.C. (AP) - Investigators in North Carolina say a 2-year-old boy was found dead by his mother after he spent the night at the home of a relative.

The Union County Sheriff’s Office says on its social media pages that detectives are looking into the death of Louis-Charles Gilbert Chenier. The child was found dead on Sunday at a home in Indian Trail, approximately 16 miles (25 km) southeast of Charlotte.

According to the sheriff’s office, the boy’s mother called 911 on Sunday after arriving at the house to pick up the child, who was spending the weekend with his father.

Sheriff’s office spokesman Tony Underwood says investigators are treating the death as “suspicious” because a cause hasn’t been found.
