LOS ANGELES (AP) - Criminal charges have been dropped against a former Los Angeles Police Department commander who was accused of being drunk in public following an off-duty traffic incident.

KNBC-TV on Tuesday cites court records that show the public intoxication case against Nicole Mehringer has been dismissed. Prosecutors could not immediately confirm the reason for the dismissal.

Mehringer and police Sgt. James Kelly were arrested by suburban Glendale police when they were found in an unmarked police car that came to rest against a parked vehicle last April.

Kelly was behind the wheel. He has pleaded not guilty to DUI.
