WALHALLA, S.C. (AP) - A South Carolina county is welcoming its newest K-9 officer.

WSPA-TV reports the Oconee County Sheriff’s Office announced a new deputy to their staff on Wednesday: K-9 Thor.

Thor, who will be a tracking and explosives canine for the sheriff’s office, is a yellow lab and was accompanied by his handler, Deputy Justin Stokes, at a swearing in ceremony Wednesday.

According to a sheriff’s office news release, Stokes and Thor have completed their required training and are ready to serve the county.

Officials say Thor received his badge at the ceremony and then retired K-9 handlers received plaques commemorating their dogs’ service to Oconee County.
