NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Authorities in Tennessee say a man stole an ambulance and led police on car chase during which he crashed into a patrol car.

News outlets report the man has since been taken into custody. Authorities didn’t immediately release his identity or say what charges, if any, have been filed against him. Metro Nashville police say the ambulance was stolen from Vanderbilt University Medical Center late Monday and an officer attempted to pull it over.

Police say the ambulance driver stopped in the road and backed into the patrol car, causing its air bags to go off. The officer wasn’t injured. Police say the ambulance driver then fled and crashed into an embankment and trees. They say he was taken into custody without further incident.
