SOUTH BURLINGTON, Vt. (AP) - A Vermont man accused of robbing two banks in one week has pleaded not guilty.

Police arrested Jason Cromie, 28, on suspicion of robbing a bank in downtown Burlington on Tuesday and another one Wednesday in South Burlington.

The Burlington resident was charged with assault and robbery after he made off with an undisclosed amount of cash from People’s United Bank and $2,000 from Community Bank.

Court documents stated that Cromie handed one of the bank tellers a note warning that he had a gun and that if they put the money in the bag with no dye packs or gas or without sounding any alarms, “no one gets hurt.”

An email was left Friday seeking comment from Jessica Brown, Cromie’s public defender.

He is being held on $25,000 bail.
