BERLIN, Conn. (AP) - A Connecticut pet supply store that has been in business for more than 140 years will soon close its doors for good.

A.S. Labieniec is a small business that’s been a part of the town Berlin since the presidency of Rutherford B. Hayes. Owner John Connery tells WVIT-TV that the old barn house that houses the store is an “icon” that previously was an old feed store.

Connery blames big box stores and internet sales as the reason for the store’s closure. He bought the business from the Labieniec family four years ago.

The store will close for good on February 28. Connery says he wants to thank the loyal customers who supported the business.
