ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - Authorities are warning New York residents to prepare for potentially damaging winds across much of the state this weekend.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo says a weather system expected to move into the region late Sunday and continue into Monday will bring gusts of 45 mph or higher for much of the state, with some approaching 75 mph in western New York and parts of the North Country.

Cuomo has directed multiple state agencies to deploy equipment throughout the state so crews can respond quickly to emergency situations and power outages.

Starting at 10 a.m. Sunday because of high wind warnings, empty tractor-trailers and tandem trucks will be banned for sections of the Thruway and some other interstate highways in western and central New York, including the Finger Lakes region.
