Sen. Lindsey Graham praised President Trump Thursday for sticking with Supreme Court Justice Brett M. Kavanaugh during his confirmation hearing last year even as some Republicans started to waiver in their support.

The South Carolina Republican said many people had urged the president to move on after the nominee faced sexual misconduct allegations from Christine Blasey Ford, who claimed the justice assaulted her while they were in high school.

Justice Kavanaugh denied the allegation, and no witnesses came forward to support Ms. Ford’s allegation.

“I’ve never been more proud of President Trump as I was during the Kavanaugh hearing,” he told supporters at the Conservative Political Action Conference.

Mr. Graham, chairman of the Judiciary Committee, said he was worried no one else would want to step forward to serve our government had the GOP allowed Democrats to force Justice Kavanaugh to withdraw.

“Elections matter. I’m chairman of the Judiciary Committee that matters,” he said.

“Judges, more judges, and some more judges,” he added, referencing the president’s promise to remake the federal bench with a conservative bent.
