GLOVERSVILLE, N.Y. (AP) - An upstate New York mayor has resigned after admitting he used City Hall’s postage meter for personal mail and then falsified records.

Dayton King pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge of official misconduct Wednesday. He had originally been charged with a felony. As part of a plea deal, the 40-year-old King was required to step down as mayor of Gloversville, 40 miles northwest of Albany.

In a statement issued through his lawyer, King apologized and said he had used poor judgment.
