BENNINGTON, Vt. (AP) - A Vermont man accused of opening fire on police officers has pleaded not guilty to attempted murder and assault charges.
Forty-year-old Matthew Novick was arraigned last week in Albany. The Bennington Banner reports Novick allegedly fired a semi-automatic rifle at police officers before being wounded on Jan. 7.
The Arlington man was taken from New York state to Vermont by police to appear in Bennington’s Superior Court Criminal Division.

Novick’s attorney entered the not guilty pleas and Novick was ordered held without bail.
