RED BLUFF, Calif. (AP) - Sheriff’s deputies in Northern California have shot and killed two men in separate incidents.

Tehama County authorities say a woman called 911 Monday to report her husband had tried to kill them both by driving their car into a fence. The woman fled from the crash. Deputies later found 45-year-old Carl Thayer armed with a knife.

Authorities say they tried to stun-gun him but Thayer used his jacket as a shield and was shot when he charged a deputy.
