Conservative author Mark Steyn said a field of 2020 presidential hopefuls is using Sen. Bernard Sanders’ brand of socialism as a blueprint for success.

The author of “America Alone” told Fox News’ Tucker Carlson on Monday evening that Democrats see “free pre-kindergarten,” “universal healthcare, “universal free college” and similar socialist platforms as their ticket to electoral success.

Mr. Steyn noted California Sen. Kamala Harris’ platform on education issues and former Vice President Joseph R. Biden’s focus on racial issues as evidence the party is “moving left at an astonishing rate.”

“Even if you think that’s a good idea, do you want a secretary of pre-K organizing that for 350 million people?” the author asked Mr. Carlson. “Everyone is Bernie and there’s no room for a Hillary [Clinton].”

The pair joked that Mr. Biden was so far behind the rhetorical power curve on socialist issues that he keeps talking about “systematic racism” instead of “systemic racism.”

“The reason Bernie can get away with full-blown socialism is because he is so old,” Mr. Steyn added. “When you actually hang it around someone in the relative bloom of youth like Kamala Harris, [it seems to make] the full horror of the unaffordable lavishness of the program seem more evident.”
