LEAKESVILLE, Miss. (AP) - A Mississippi sheriff’s office says a missing 16-year-old has been found, and her boyfriend jailed.
The Greene County Sheriff’s Office said in a Facebook post Sunday that Veronica Platt is safe, while 20-year-old Tyler Wood is in custody.
Sheriff’s deputies told news outlets a brief stop the couple made at Wood’s mother’s house Dec. 26 had been the last time they were seen.
The Hattiesburg American reports Wood was charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor, and made an initial court appearance Monday. A sheriff’s official declined The American’s requests for comment. It’s unclear if Wood has a lawyer who could comment.
Wood was one of Mississippi’s youngest election commissioners when elected in Forrest County in 2016. He resigned about a year into his term for personal reasons.
