HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (AP) - Authorities say a man has died in a shooting they believe was accidental.
Madison County Sheriff’s Office Lt. Donny Shaw tells AL.com that 39-year-old Michael “Heath” Stockberger suffered a gunshot wound to the chest Monday night. Shaw says deputies performed CPR and life-saving measures, but he died at the scene.
Shaw says in a statement that initial indications are that it was an accidental shooting.

Stockberger’s body will be sent to the state Forensic Sciences Department for an autopsy. Shaw says the case is considered a death investigation for now.
