TACOMA, Wash. (AP) - A Washington state police officer has shot and injured a woman who authorities say was armed with a knife.

The News Tribune reports that a Tacoma Police officer shot the woman around 9 p.m. Tuesday.

Authorities did not provide the name of the woman in her 50s or the 24-year-old officer involved in the shooting.

Police say they were called to a restaurant to deal with the woman, but it was unclear what occurred beforehand.

Police say they gave medical aid to the woman before she was transported to Tacoma General Hospital.

The woman is expected to survive and there were no other injuries reported.

Authorities say the officer who joined the department 10 months ago was placed on paid administrative leave.

Police say an investigation is ongoing.
