PAWTUCKET, R.I. (AP) - A Rhode Island man charged with sexually assaulting a 17-year-old girl in a wooded area near a bike path has been held without bail.

Michael Hayworth appeared in court on Monday to face charges of first-degree sexual assault and kidnapping in connection with the incident that occurred about 8 p.m. Friday near the Ten Mile River Greenway path in Pawtucket.

The girl gave police a description of her attacker that was released to the public Saturday. Authorities received a tip that led to the 60-year-old Pawtucket man’s arrest on Sunday.

Hayworth was held pending a bail hearing on June 24.

It was unclear if he had a lawyer. His son told WPRI-TV that his father is a “family man” who struggles with addictions to alcohol and drugs.
