PUEBLO, Colo. (AP) - A man has been sentenced to 42 years in prison for the shooting death of a single mother of four in southern Colorado.

The Pueblo Chieftain reports 35-year-old Heith Gleason pleaded guilty Tuesday to second-degree murder and was immediately sentenced for the death of 41-year-old Amy Garcia.

Gleason and his juvenile son were arrested in December after Garcia’s body was found in her burned-out car in front of their home in Walsenburg. A witness says Garcia was in her car when the elder Gleason went outside and fired a shot. He then came back inside and said he didn’t kill her.

According to court records, the son then went outside, and the witness heard more gunshots. Heith Gleason reportedly told the witness his son “had earned his man card.”

The son has a July court appearance.
