PHOENIX (AP) - Two suspects are in custody in connection with the killing of a 25-year-old man in a Phoenix park.

Phoenix police say 27-year-old Delfred Lynn Caroll and 19-year-old Joshua Joe Paul are jailed on suspicion of first-degree murder, aggravated assault, armed robbery and prohibited possession of a weapon as well as unrelated warrants.

They say the victim was beaten, cut with an edged weapon and then shot Monday evening at Phoenix Steele Indian School Park.

He later died at a hospital. His name is being withheld until his family is notified.

Police say the suspects were arrested after attempting to flee on a light rail train.

They say the men were in possession of the victim’s backpack.

It was unclear Tuesday if either Caroll or Paul has a lawyer yet.
