MILWAUKEE (AP) - A Milwaukee man has been charged with multiple counts in a crash that killed a police officer.

Thirty-four-year-old Dante James was charged Friday with homicide by intoxicated use of a vehicle, hit-and-run causing death and operating a vehicle with a revoked license.

According to the charges, James sped through a red light early Tuesday and hit a car Officer Kou Her was in. Her had just finished a shift and was in his police uniform.



Court records don’t list an attorney to comment on James’ behalf.

The complaint says James drank shots and beer before he drove. He was fired from his job Monday afternoon - less than 12 hours before the crash - because he showed up to work drunk.

James has four past convictions for driving while intoxicated. His license has been revoked since April 2018.
