NEW CITY, N.Y. (AP) - A suburban New York gymnastics coast accused of sexually abusing young girls has pleaded guilty to one count of abuse and faces a four-year prison sentence.
Joseph Lewin pleaded guilty to one felony sex abuse count on in Rockland County on Thursday.
An indictment accused the 68-year-old Lewin of illegal sexual contact with at least seven girls under age 13 between 2007 and 2014. The girls were students at gyms where Lewin worked.
Rockland County District Attorney Kevin Gilleece said Lewin took advantage of “vulnerable victims.” Gilleece said Lewin’s predatory conduct “cannot go unpunished.”
Defense attorney David Goldstein told the Journal News that Lewin decided to plead guilty to one count “and resolve all matters.”
Lewin is free on bond pending his Sept. 9 sentencing.
