HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) - Police say one man was killed and a second was injured in a late night shooting in Hartford.
Police Lt. Paul Cicero says officers responding to an alert from the city’s automated gunfire detection system went to Winchester Street at about 11:30 p.m. Wednesday where they found one victim outdoors with critical injuries.
That man, 30-year-old Caron Canty, was taken to the hospital where he died.
A second victim, 32-year-old Richard Johnson, was taken to St. Francis Hospital in a private vehicle.
Cicero says a group of men was outside when a shooter or shooters emerged from behind a building and fired 17 shots. Police do not believe Canty was targeted.
No arrests have been announced.
It was the city’s 11th homicide of the year.
