NEWARK, N.J. (AP) - Authorities say a man who punched and seriously injured another man in an unprovoked street attack last week is now charged with aggravated manslaughter following the victim’s death.

Essex County prosecutors say 53-year-old Tyrone Johnson was walking along Broad Street in Newark on Thursday when 31-year-old Oscar Kadua allegedly approached him around 8:30 p.m. They say Kadua then struck Johnson, causing him to fall and suffer a head injury.

Johnson was taken to a hospital but was pronounced dead there a short time later.

A motive for the attack has not been disclosed. Authorities say the two men apparently didn’t know each other.
