MIAMI (AP) - A former Miami police officer has been convicted of attacking a nurse while on duty.

The Miami Herald says a jury on Friday convicted Lester Bohnenblust of battery on a person over the age of 65 and false imprisonment.

Video surveillance from May 2018 at the Jackson Memorial Hospital behavioral health unit shows Bohnenblust grabbing 67-year-old James Nicholson by his jacket, slamming him to the ground and placing him under arrest.

The newspaper says the altercation began over the officer’s niece. Bohnenblust demanded that his niece be readmitted to the unit after she had been discharged the day before.

Bohnenblust has been fired. Nicholson is now retired with an injured knee.
