VICTORVILLE, Calif. (AP) - Authorities say eight people have been injured at a federal prison in Victorville but details remain sketchy.

The San Bernardino County Fire Department says there was a “mass casualty” incident at the Mojave Desert lockup northeast of Los Angeles on Monday night. Eight patients were examined and four of them were taken to hospitals for treatment of moderate injuries. The other injuries are minor.

There’s no immediate word on whether the injured were prisoners or guards and how they were hurt.

The Federal Correctional Complex, Victorville houses about 1,300 inmates, including some in high security.
