Presidential hopeful Beto O’Rourke’s accomplishments as a congressman were likened to something akin to the old “Captain Planet” cartoon by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.

The California Democrat said Thursday while taking questions from reporters her former colleague was known for his “vitality” and dedication to “preserving the planet.”

Mr. O’Rourke, 46, threw his hat into an already crowded ring of Democrats on Thursday.

“Beto has brought a good deal of vitality to Congress,” she said when asked about the Texan. “One of the issues — I haven’t been asked this question, but I just know his record here — when he came, he came as a real champion for the environment.”

She then touted Mr. O’Rourke’s time on the House Armed Services committee.

“In preserving our planet and protecting our people, there are at least two areas in addition to his vitality in so many other ways,” she said.

Mr. O’Rourke told supporters in an online video that the U.S. is in a “moment of peril,” although it also offered “the greatest moment of promise for this country,” presumably realized if he winds up in the White House.
