MEDINA, N.D. (AP) - Three people were hurt and a sheriff narrowly escaped serious injury when eight vehicles crashed on a North Dakota interstate.
Stutsman County sheriff’s officials say visibility was near zero on Interstate 94 near Medina Monday afternoon due to blowing snow. The North Dakota Highway Patrol says a car and semi that slowed down because of conditions were struck from behind by another semi.
About a mile east of that crash, two patrol vehicles and two snowplows flashed their lights to slow oncoming traffic. A car that slowed down was struck by another vehicle. Stutsman County Sheriff Chad Kaiser was standing outside his squad car when it was sideswiped by another car which then rear-ended a semi. The car brushed Kaiser’s leg, but he was not seriously hurt.
Three injured people were taken to Jamestown Regional Medical Center.
