LINCOLNTON, N.C. (AP) - A North Carolina sheriff’s office has charged the father of a 1-year-old child who suffered a gunshot wound to the head.

The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release on Monday that 23-year-old Dylan Sean Moose of Lincolnton is charged with storing a firearm in a manner accessible to a minor, which is a misdemeanor.

According to the sheriff’s office, detectives say the child’s father was outside his home smoking a cigarette on Sunday when he heard a loud pop. The sheriff’s office says the 1-year-old and a 2-year-old took a .380 caliber handgun from a nightstand in the bedroom and a shot was fired. Investigators say the 1-year-old suffered a graze wound.

Moose is free on a $5,000 bond. It’s not known if he has an attorney.
