YAKIMA, Wash. (AP) - Authorities say four Yakima County jail inmates are facing assault charges after a corrections officer suffered a broken nose and rib in an attack.

The Yakima Herald-Republic reports the officer was attacked Wednesday when he went to investigate why two inmates had switched cells without authorization.

A probable cause affidavit says Pedro Solis approached the officer from behind and started striking the officer with a closed fist. The affidavit says as the two grappled, inmates Jose Arriaga, Primitivo Garcia and Hector Garcia-Ceja joined in the attack on the officer.

Other corrections officers came to the officer’s aid. The affidavit says he was treated at a local hospital and released.
