NEW YORK (AP) - Police say bursts of gunfire near two different Brooklyn playgrounds have wounded six men and teens, leaving one man fighting for his life.

The first shooting happened around 7 p.m. Monday on Hemlock Street in the East New York area, where three men were shot while apparently socializing in an area outside a playground.

Police say one man was wounded in the neck area. His injuries are considered life-threatening. Two others also were wounded but are expected to survive.

Officers are looking for the gunman, who ran off.

Police say about two hours later and five miles (8 km) away, three teenagers were shot in or near a playground off Atlantic Avenue near the Bedford-Stuyvesant neighborhood. All are expected to survive.

Police were told two people fled after that shooting.
