LOS ANGELES (AP) - A man has been sentenced to life in prison without chance of parole for killing a witness to a California shooting - a woman whose children were later kidnapped and abandoned.

Thirty-one-year-old Alex Valdez was sentenced Friday in Los Angeles for the 2016 killing of Kimberly Harvill. Her body was found in a remote area of Gorman.

Prosecutors say Harvill was killed because a few days earlier she’d witnessed a shooting in Fresno involving Valdez and another man, Joshua Robertson.

Authorities say Robertson and the victim’s half-sister then kidnapped Harvill’s three children, ages 2, 3, and 5. They were later found abandoned in a New Mexico hotel.

Robertson is serving a life sentence for murder and kidnapping. Brittney Sue Humphrey is serving 13 years for kidnapping.
