WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (AP) - A North Carolina agency which advocates for the homeless and needy is investigating how donors and players at its annual golf tournament were told that a PGA Tour golfer would be the host.
The Winston-Salem Journal reports an advertisement for last week’s tournament sponsored by the Winston-Salem Rescue Mission said golfer Steve Stricker would host the outing.
At the time of the event, Stricker was at his Wisconsin home and posted to Twitter that he knew nothing about it. He said he was shocked and saddened to learn that the mission was “misled in their effort to do great things.”
Bobby “Bucky” Frye, chairman of the rescue mission’s board of directors, said the rescue mission would issue a statement about the matter by Wednesday, but declined additional comment.
