BINGHAMTON, N.Y. (AP) - Utilities are reminding customers in New York that enrollment for heating assistance is open for this winter.

The Home Energy Assistance Program helps low-income people pay the cost of heating their homes. The utilities NYSEG and RG&E reminded customers Tuesday that enrollment for New York’s HEAP program is now open.

Eligibility and benefits are based on income, household size and other factors.
