NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Two Tennessee women have been charged in a fire that killed a 9-month-old boy and injured five other children.
News outlets report 24-year-old Ryana Davenport was arrested Monday on charges including first-degree murder in the July 7 fire that killed her son Jream Jenkins. Twenty-six-year-old Gevona Smith surrendered to police that same day on charges including murder.
Metro Nashville police have said the two women left their children home alone so they could go clubbing. A police statement says the children were left in a home with lit candles and were medicated so they would stay asleep. Police say the women said they hired a babysitter, but no evidence supports that claim. The children all share the same father. It’s unclear if the women have lawyers.
