HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) - A Connecticut police officer charged with assaulting a former girlfriend and pistol whipping a man she was with has been held on $50,000 bond.
Hartford Officer Joven Gonzalez was arraigned Monday on charges including first-degree threatening and second-degree assault
Investigators say the 26-year-old Gonzalez attacked the couple at a hotel Sunday morning while off duty. He was arrested later in the day.
Police said the woman sustained only minor injuries, but the man sought medical treatment for cuts to the head before filing a complaint with police.
Interim Police Chief Jason Thody said he is “deeply concerned” about the allegations Gonzalez faces and said the officer has been placed on unpaid administrative leave.
Gonzalez’s public defender told the judge his client intends to “clear his name.”
