GREENBELT, Md. (AP) - A prominent Baltimore defense attorney has pleaded not guilty to charges stemming from an alleged narcotics conspiracy.
Court records show Kenneth Ravenell was arraigned Wednesday on one count each of racketeering conspiracy, conspiracy to commit money laundering and narcotics conspiracy.
Federal authorities have accused Ravenell of receiving payments from a drug-trafficker client and his associates for coaching on how to evade law enforcement.
He’s also accused of using his law firm’s bank accounts to launder hundreds of thousands of dollars.
The indictment alleges Ravenell participated in a conspiracy to distribute 1,000 kilograms or more of marijuana.
Trial is scheduled to begin Dec. 9.
If convicted, Ravenell faces a maximum sentence of life in prison for the narcotics conspiracy and up to 20 years for each of the other two counts.
