The Terrapins have made nine consecutive NCAA tournaments, but lost in the second round each of the past two years. Coach Brenda Frese led the program to a national championship in 2006, and they returned to the Final Four in 2014.
The Terrapins will be led in 2019-20 by seniors Kaila Charles and Stephanie Jones. Last year’s top freshmen, guard Taylor Mikesell and 6-foot-5 forward Shakira Austin, are back for their sophomore campaigns.
The Maryland men’s team is ranked No. 7 in the preseason poll. Only Maryland and Louisville can boast top 10 teams in both the men’s and women’s polls.
