EVERETT, Wash. (AP) - Detectives have arrested a man on suspicion of fatally stabbing an acquaintance at a south Everett homeless encampment.

The Daily Herald reports the 19-year-old was detained Thursday for investigation of second-degree murder.

Snohomish County sheriff’s deputies found the victim, T.J. Bern, bleeding from a leg wound on a path through the woods around midnight on Sept. 23.

The 26-year-old man was transported to a hospital where he died the next day.

Police say evidence suggested the suspect was angry about someone stealing his wallet. Witnesses reported a confrontation about the theft and told deputies that Bern was stabbed as the two men fought.

The man remains at the Snohomish County Jail with bail set at $250,000.

In arguing the bail amount, public defender Tobin Klusty said that man may have acted in self -defense.
