COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - The South Carolina Department of Corrections says it has arrested a 62-year-old woman for providing contraband to an inmate.
WCIV-TV reports while visiting an inmate at Lieber Correctional Institution on Sunday, Barbara A. Vance, of Ruffin, gave an inmate 46 grams of tobacco that was wrapped in electrical tape inside a potato chip bag.
After an investigation and recovery of evidence, officials say Vance admitted to the crime.
Vance was charged Monday with providing contraband to a prisoner and criminal conspiracy. She was processed at Dorchester County Detention Center and has since bonded out.
Directory assistance didn’t have a number for Vance, who is free on bond. It was unknown if she is represented by an attorney who could comment on her behalf.
