WORCESTER, Mass. (AP) - Two people charged in connection with a weekend shooting in Worcester that left a man dead have been held without bail.
The Telegram & Gazette reports that 24-year-old Juan Gutierrez and 21-year-old Kenneth Vazquez had not guilty pleas to charges including murder entered on their behalf at their arraignment Wednesday.
Prosecutors say Gutierrez shot 37-year-old Juan Mendez in the face on Saturday evening near an apartment complex and Vazquez acted as the getaway driver.
Police found the victim on the ground suffering from a gunshot wound. He was taken to the hospital where he died.
Investigators do not think the shooting was a random act of violence but have not disclosed a possible motive.
The suspects’ attorneys asked for the right to seek bail at a future date.
