GAFFNEY, S.C. (AP) - A judge has sentenced a 61-year-old man to the maximum 65 year prison sentence for shooting two men inside a restaurant in South Carolina.

Prosecutors say it is lucky no one was killed and more people weren’t wounded in the March 2018 shooting at Harold’s Restaurant in downtown Gaffney.

The Gaffney Ledger reports that witnesses testified in Eddie Motts’ trial he was asked to leave for threatening people.

Authorities say Motts returns with a gun, shooting one man on the phone with 911 as he tried to run and owner Tony Lipscomb whose own gun jammed.

Motts was found guilty of two counts of attempted murder and a weapons violation.

The jury rejected arguments Motts was insane or was acting in self-defense.
