PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - Rhode Island’s governor and education officials are meeting with the Greater Providence Chamber of Commerce to discuss the future of education.

The chamber says Democratic Gov. Gina Raimondo, Education Commissioner Angélica Infante-Green and Rhode Island Board of Education Chairwoman Barbara S. Cottam will speak at the 2019 Economic Outlook Luncheon at noon Wednesday at the Omni Providence Hotel.

Chamber President Laurie White will moderate a conversation about the future of education and state intervention in the Providence public schools.

The state gave Infante-Green the sweeping authority to turn around Providence’s beleaguered system after a scathing independent report labeled it among the worst in the nation this summer. The Johns Hopkins Institute for Education Policy laid out issues of rampant bullying and fighting among students, deteriorating facilities and a tangled bureaucracy.
