The NFL is reviewing its concussion protocol after New York Giants wide receiver Sterling Shepard finished last week’s game with a concussion, ESPN reported

On a play in the third quarter, Shepard had trouble standing up after a collision with an opponent. Despite his staggering, the league’s concussion spotters did not step in to have Shepard checked for a concussion.

Giants beat writer Pat Leonard pointed out that two of Shepard’s teammates were “pointing” at Shepard at the time, perhaps to get a team trainer to help him, but Shepard remained in the game.

Shepard is not fully healed yet and will be out for the Giants’ Week 2 game against Buffalo.
